2007 Prius Hacks - Turn Off Reverse and Seatbelt Beeping
Filed in: Prius Add comments
In order to disable the reverse beeping on your 2007 Prius, follow these instructions:
- Without your foot on the brake, turn on your Prius and make sure you are in ODO mode (not Trip A or B). Power off the Prius
- With your foot on the brake, turn on the Prius. As soon as the ‘Ready’ light is lit, press and hold the ODO button for at least 10 seconds.
- Keeping the ODO button pressed, move the shifter to Reverse and release, then press the Park button again. At this point, ‘b- on’ should appear on your dashboard display.
- You can now let go of the ODO button, and each press of the ODO button toggles between ‘b-on’ and ‘b-off’. To disable the reverse beep, simply set it to ‘b-off’, the power off the Prius.
And to disable each of the front seatbelt warning beeps, follow these instructions:
- Be sure someone is sitting in the seat which seatbelt beep you wish to disable.
- Keeping the ODO button pressed, insert the seatbelt that you wish to disable the beep for. At this point, ‘b- on’ should appear on your dashboard display.
- You can now let go of the ODO button, and each press of the ODO button toggles between ‘b- on’ and ‘b-off’. To disable the reverse beep, simply set it to ‘b-off’, the power off the Prius.
These instructions may work for earlier model years as well, although 2006 and earlier models may require noone be in the seat which seatbelt is being disabled.

I can and will testify to the validity of this article, because I was present at the time at which Mr. Cotton performed the task described.

How do I start the 2007 Prius without my foot on the brake? I thought it couldn’t be started unless your foot was on the brake and you pushed the start button. Am I missing something? Please let me know, as I’d very much like to disable both the seatbelt and the backup alarms. Thanks, Donna - New owner

Hey Donna,
With your foot off the brake, after you push the Power button once, it won’t completely power on, but some dash lights will come on. At this point make sure you are on ODO (not Trip A or B). You will then press power again (foot still off the brake), which turns on the Prius, and 1 more time which will turn it off.
At this point, put your foot on the brake and continue the instructions.

Hey Dave,
I have no clue if this will work on a Japanese model. Has anyone had luck disabling the beeping on a Japan model Prius?

Thanks Cotton!
I got the reverse beep to stop, but even with the b-off for seatbelt, I still get beeps for seatbelt.
Any Ideas?

Wow, I’ve got a 2004 Prius and just saw this article tonight, I went right out to try the seatbelt disable and sure enough it works. Very impressive.

It worked on my 2005 Prius, but when I turned the car off and then restarted to test the setting it had returned back to the default “b-on”. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

@Dean - you may try reading comment 4. AFAIK, if it says b-off, it shouldn’t beep…
@Mike - I’m not sure if the 2005 acts differently, it seems some people have had luck with models earlier than 2007.
You both may try looking at this forum:

some people have had more luck with that version of the instructions.

Well, when I got back into my car this morning the reverse beep didnt sound. I suppose it just took a little bit of time. Whatever it was this fix works on the 2005 Prius. Thanks!

Glad you got it working, looks like this works for the most part on all 2004-2007 models.

Thanks much for the tips! I am a great lover of insider computer hacks..although I don’t have the savvy myself to write any! I am awaiting my first hybrid delivery next week and really appreciate your wonderful workarounds..Thanks again…Barry

The seatbelt hack doesn’t seem to work for my 2007. I went through the steps on both driver & passenger side. Setting now reads b-off for both. But when I start the car it still beeps ~4 times.

both of those worked on my 2006 prius. I did have to sit in the passenger seat to change the setting on it. thanks for the tips. how do i get the ‘i agree’ to go away on my navigation system everytime i use it?

On our old 2001 Prius the MPG calculation was continuous unless you pushed the “RESET” button. In our new 2007 Prius every time you fill the tank with gas the MPG calculation resets automatically. Has anyone figured out how to override this “new” feature? I’d like to know total MPG not just for each tank.

I tried other instructions to disable my reverse beep with no luck. These instructions work because I started the car without the brake and then turned off with the brake and held it down from that point on. I think that is the secret ingredient! How you handle the power and brake. My Prius is a 2007 and I love it.
